Hello Sister,

For a long time “woo-woo” meant flaky, “out-there”, new-agey, occult — not in a powerful way; in a dismissive way.

That makes a certain amount of sense when you remember that woo-woo is everything non-logical, unreasonable, and irrational. It’s not legit. It’s anti-church, anti-university-learning, NOT a party to Father-God, or patriarchy in general.

For years and years, “woo-woo” was how people mocked:

magic
visualization
affirmations
women’s circles
card reading
intuition
dreamwork
psychic abilities
believing in angels
listening to spirit guides
holding crystals
and

YOUR FAVORITE PRACTICE.

In other words, woo-woo was for girls and weirdos and people nobody should take seriously.

From Woo-Woo to Woo

Now we use “woo” instead, as a short-hand way to say, “I get the joke, woo-woo is weird, but seriously guys, there’s something to it and I’m not one of those weirdos.”

“Woo” stands for, “Wait a minute, I actually DO read Tarot now and I DO like crystals and believe in metaphysical things…but I don’t want to be too out about it.”

But, on a deeper level, we’re nervous to claim our source of inspiration and hope and power, because something else is going on.

Some part of your soul knows it is dangerous to admit your devotion to magic, spiritual growth, feminine wisdom, and using your non-linear, non-rational abilities.

Woo and Women’s Power

Woo, you see, is feminine energy, unleashed. And we used to get burned at the stake for shit like that.

Woo is grounded in the gifts, talents and propensities of girls, women, women-identified, women-loving people. The oppressed, suppressed and distressed.

Woo is hidden: bubbling, brewing, yearning and churning feminine within men and women, longing for expression in this time in history.

Woo is dark, secret, monthly, lunar, magical, deep, shadowy.

Woo is dangerous in its undermining potential.

Woo is listening to your intuition instead of the politics and economics, the elected representatives and the authorities. It is listening to trees instead. It is waiting for insight from meditation, dreams, rituals and nature instead of knee-jerking choices because of opinion, patriarchy, capitalism or the rules of church and state.

We need your woo.

It is the sweet, gentle weapon that will let freedom ring.

It is time to bring magic, the Goddess, the matriarchy, feminine power, the sacred spiral, earth-centered spirituality, hope, peace, truth, love, sensuality, sexuality, creativity, intuition to light. Because, we just may be returning to the burning times, sisters.

Kindle your woo-fire while you can.

When you work your woo, you build your power.
